Let the fun in growing begin....

Brief Grow Blog and Pictures

Grace Dunn (warczewitzii x rosea) carries 15+ pink and green flowers with cute frilly lips on 3-4 pendulous inflorescences from leafless bulbs in mid-winter. Mormodia Jumbo Bacia (badia x uncia) 'SVO' is surprisingly floriferous, holding up to 37 dark maroon red flowers on each stem. Mormodes is dominant for several characteristics, and this grex will bloom late in the season, with flowers in colors ranging from red to bronze, and a high flower count of 20-25 on each inflorescence.  These also will begin to flower at a young age, generally in 3” pots. Once mature, Mormodias (Clowesia x Mormodes) make excellent specimen plants, flowering profusely with many pendulous inflorescences ( - Fred Clarke, Sunset Valley Orchids )

 1 May 2020

Through April, I resisted the urge to water except by backfilling the reservoir.  I repeated as needed every few days keeping in mind a brief hot spell.

The new growth is developing nicely.

In my growing area I have two divisions of this orchid growing side by side.  One is slightly more ahead of the other in the development of growth.

As long as temperatures stay near seasonable for this time of year I will refrain from top watering.  However, these bulbs are much thinner then other Catasetinaes so will also keep an eye on the condition of the supporting backbulb.
